From once you pull up to the estate , there is an intricate piece of history around every corner – this truly adds to the magnificent character of the hotel which offers the finest of 5* comforts. With a history spanning more than 8 centuries, Carton House offers timeless hospitality throughout the estate. Once the Home to Duke & Duchess Fitzgerald and their family, it was a favourite of Queen Victoria and counts Princess Grace, Prince Rainier & Peter Sellers as its one-time inhabitants. Admire the beautifully ornate Gold Salon, with commissioned stucco work by the famous Franchini Brothers of Switzerland – the room’s soaring ceiling is covered in intricate gold swirls and motifs with a continuing set of French doors which open out to an uninterrupted view across the golf course; a view which, Queen Victoria once remarked, “should never be spoiled” and is the perfect setting to enjoy a special Afternoon Tea Experience.
There is quite a selection of food & beverage offerings onsite… Step back in time when you dine in Kathleen’s Kitchen which is located in the old servant’s kitchens – the setting retains many original features including the vast cast iron stoves of the 1700s, which give the restaurant its unique character. The original library of The House is now a unique and exclusive venue dedicated to whiskey, while the Duke’s Rest houses an extensive global collection of wine. Queen Victoria’s extravagant “Bedroom”, the beautiful Chinese Room is in its original state & once housed the four-poster bed in which the Queen slept, including the specially commissioned gilt-wood & hand-drawn papyrus wallpaper from China.
